After her birth, Elmira was sent to live with her mother's sister, Henrietta Carty Morgan in Kent Co., DE. She appears with Henrietta's family in the 1850 Kent Co. census records.
On 29 January, 1857 Elmira married into the Kent Co. mixed blood community when she married Isaiah Munce in the home of Isaiah's uncle, Joel Durham. The minister was Piner Mansfield.
After Elmira's marriage her mother, Rebecca Carty, came to live with her daughter and new son-in-law in Kent Co, DE. She appears with them in later census records.
Elmira died in Cheswold DE on 18 January, 1922. Her death certificate lists her race as "Moor" even though she was born in Maryland and not in Delaware where the term was more common, her birthdate as 18 August, 1844 (the family bible lists 1842), the cause of death as chronic valvular heart disease and her father's name as "James Mason of MD.". She was buried on 21 January, not at Immanuel Union (Manship) Church with her husband, but at Forest Grove 7th Day Adventist Church. The undertaker was Calvin CLARK.
