He was born in Maryland (probably near Ridgeley in Caroline Co.) sometime around 1816 but by 1818 he had moved with his family to Kent Co., DE. He married Eliza JACKSON of Delaware (born c. 1815, possibly into the Sussex Co. JACKSON family) sometime before 1840.
James and Eliza had the following children :
- Daniel Coker (1840 - 1898 )
- Mary Ann Coker (1844-1923)
- Moses Coker (1849-1898)
James' occupation was listed as "farmer". He last appears in the 1870 census records living with his wife and son, Moses (age 21). Living next door with Sherry CARNEY who was married to Mary Jane Carty was Hopewell CARTER.
James and Elizabeth died sometime after 1870.
