Moses Coker
Moses Coker, possibly the son of Philip Coker, was born in Maryland sometime around 1764. He lived most of his life in Caroline Co., MD where he died on 18 July, 1867 at the age of 103 years. The American Union Newspaper contained the following obituary:
- AU 18 July, 1867--Moses Coker an old colored citizen of this county died at his residence in the first district last week aged 103 years. He was respected by our white citizens who knew him as a man of truth, promptness and punctuality in all his dealings. He had acquired considerable property, owning at the time of his death some 3 or 4 farms. His estate is valued at $15,000 which he leaves to his children and grandchildren."
A great deal of information can be gleaned from the probate records and inventories filed at the time of his death.
