William Concilor

William Concilor was the grandson of Thomas Concilor who died in 1739. His parents are not yet known. It is possible he was the son of Thomas's daughter, Mary Consela, or he might have been the son of a deceased child of Thomas's.

On February 12, 1756 William bought land from John Durham and his wife Elizabeth for 75 pounds. This land adjoined John Durham's lands in Little Creek Hundred in Kent Co. and marked the documented beginning of a long term friendship between the Durhams and the Concilors although the families probably knew each other prior to this. At any rate, 2 of John Durham's daughters would eventually marry Concilors (possible sons of William and his wife, Mary).

The connection with the Durham family continued when, on December 16, 1767, William signed papers along with Daniel Durham whereby John Durham and Sarah Handsor (John's sister?) were name administrators of the estate of Sarah's deceased husband William Hansor .

On November 28, 1776 Willam and his wife, Mary, of Little Creek Hundred sold 100 acres of land to Francis Barber for 200 pounds. This is probably the same 100 acres William purchased from John Durham in 1756.

In 1780, William Concilor died and on May 1, 1780 Administration of his estate was given to his long time friend and neighbor, John Durham. The papers mention expenses for clothing Whittenton and William Conselor .

We have no confirmed children of William and Mary but there were other Concilors in the area at the time who were possible descendants of William.

Possible children of William and Mary Concilor:

There was also a second Thomas Concilor in the area since two are listed in the 1782 Taxables (one in Murderkill Hundred and one in Little Creek Hundred so we cannot know for sure whch one married John Durham's daughter, Elizabeth.

Yet another Thomas Concilor was born in Kent Co. on 7 March 1784. He and his wife Mary were tenants on a farm in Duck Creek Hundred called Bloomsbury before moving to Salem Co., NJ. Bloomsbury has been excavated by archeologist Ned Heite and a report will be printed shortly. For more information on Bloomsbury, visit Ned's website.
