Mamie Durham Morgan
Mamie Durham was born in Kent Co., Delaware on 17 December, 1897. She was the daughter of Enoch Durham and Margaret Munce.

In 1918, Mamie gave birth to a son: Norris Edward Durham (1918-1998). He was raised by Mamie's brother, Wilson Durham.

Mamie later married Edward Morgan and moved to Fairton, Salem Co., NJ.

The children of Edward and Mamie were

  1. Selina Arnetta Morgan was born in Fairton, NJ in 1921. She lived for awhile in Wilmington DE but later returned to NJ and married Carl W. Pierce. She and Carl lived in Bridgeton and Elmer NJ and had 2 daughters :
    1. Diana Pierce married Donald Coombs
    2. Patricia Pierce

    Carl died in Philadelphia on 14 December, 1992. Selina continues to live in NJ.

  2. Araminta Morgan (1922- ) married Francis L. Jackson

  3. Naomi Morgan was born in Fairton, NJ on 28 September, 1924. She contracted TB of the hip joint and died at the Children's Seashore House in Atlantic City on 7 November, 1929. She is buried in the same grave as her mother at the Manship Church in Cheswold, DE.

  4. Mary Elva Morgan was born in Fairton, NJ in 1927. After the death of her mother, she went to live with her father's brother,Leomond Morgan and his wife, Elva Carter. She continues to live in south Jersey.

    She married Ernest Glendon MOSLEY of Cheswold in Philadelpia in 1948. They have two children:

    1. Carol Ann Mosley, married John Davies
    2. Ernest Glendon Mosley, Jr.

After nursing her sister, Maybelle Durham, Mamie developed TB and was sent to the Fairview Sanitarium in Burlington Co., NJ where she died on 31 October, 1929. Her death certificate lists her birthdate as " Dec. 17, 1897", her race as "colored" and the cause of death as "pulmonary tuberculosis".

Unbeknownst to Mamie, her daughter Naomi also developed TB and died a few days after her mother. Mother and daughter are both buried in the same grave at Immanuel Union (Manship) Church in Cheswold , DE
