William Durham
William Durham was born in Kent Co., DE sometime before 1757. He was the son of John Durham and Elizabeth Hewes .

He appeared in the 1785 Kenton Hundred Tax Lists which also included Little Creek Hundred so he lived in the same general area as his father.

William was mentioned in the will of his father, written in 1788.

On 27 July, 1797 Letters of Administration on his estate were granted to his widow, Mary Durham. Based on the estate papers we know that William and Mary had the following children:

  1. Elizabeth Durham married Jesse Dean
  2. Sarah Durham married John Durham
  3. Mary Durham married a "Hughes" (possibly John or Thomas)
  4. Deborough Durham married a "Cott" (possibly John)
  5. Susannah Durham married a "Hansor"
  6. William Durham
  7. * Benjamin Durham (minor)
  8. * Isabella Durham (minor)

(* Benjamin and Isabella were mentioned in the 1793 will of William's brother, Whittenton Durham, so it is possible they were Whittenton's children being raised by his surviving brother *)

William was raised solidly within the mixed blood community. A review of his estate papers reveals a host of community members like: Robert Carney, John Huse (Hughes), John Conselar, Isaiah Durham (brother), John Sisco (brother-in-law), Jesse Dean (son-in-law), Thomas Huse (Hughes), Elijah Conselar (brother-in-law) and Thomas Carney.

His estate was valued at 129 pounds, 12 shillings & 3 pence.
