He was born on 15 February, 1842 in Northwest Fork Hundred, Sussex Co., DE. He died on 29 December, 1915, still living in Sussex Co., DE . He is buried at the Indian Mission Church with his wife, Lydia Ann Wright . Lydia was born on 2 February, 1848 and died 3 May, 1901. Her photo can be found in the Nanticoke Indian Photo Book.
Robert appears with his parents in the 1850 and 1860 DE. census records.
By 1870, however, Robert was married and living in his own household with his wife and 2 children (Mary Elizabeth, age 2 and John A., age 1). Living in the same household was James Wright, age 7. James was probably related to Lydia's family. Dave Wright, Lydia's uncle, and his family were living next door.
Robert's occupation in 1870 was listed as "seaman". By 1880, however, he was living in Milford Hundred, Sussex Co., DE. and his occupation had changed to "farmer".
Robert's death certificate lists his age at the time of his death as 73 years, 10 months & 15 days. He was called a farmer, a widower and colored. The cause of death was listed as pneumonia and he was shown living in Millsboro, Indian River Hundred, Sussex Co., DE.
The death certificate lists the place of burial as Johnson's Chapel which was the name of the original Indian Mission Church and, in fact, his gravemarker (and Lydia's) is to be found there. It is now much weathered and cannot be read but I copied the inscription many years ago. The death certificate lists his mother's name as "Heslin" but the census clearly lists Elizabeth or "Lizzie".

- Sarah Ann Jackson was born in Sussex Co., DE. in 1875. She married Perry Hughes and lived in Kent Co., DE. where she died in 1957. She and her husband are buried at the Fork Branch cemetary outside Cheswold. They had only one known child, Lydia Hughes (b. July 1897), but they raised many others.

- Clara Frances Jackson was born in Sussex Co., DE. in 1888. She died in 1937 and is buried, with her husband, at the Fork Branch cemetary in Kent Co., DE. On 4 June 1908 she married Wingate Burton Mosley, son of Purnell P. Mosley and Eliza Jane Johnson. Wingate was born 30 Jun 1882/May 1886 in Delaware. He died 4 Jan 1954.
They had the following children:
