On 4 January, 1888 he married Anna Elizabeth Dean and the had the following children :

On 12 September, 1892 he bought land in Kenton Hundred from William S. Hardcastle and his wife, Mary, for $1100 : 2 parcels of land described as follows :

• No. 1. All that certain farm or tract of land situate in Kenton Hundred, Kent Co. and State of Delaware on the public road leading from the Seven Hickories to what is known as the Upper Mill, adjoining lands of William R. Smith, lands of James K. Morgan and Lot No.2 hereinafter described and said to contain 25 acres of land more or less.
  
• No.2 Also, all that certain lot, piece or parcel of land situate in the Hundred, County and State aforesaid, adjoining lands of James K. Morgan and the farm above described as No.1 and said to contain one acre of land more or less, and being the same lands and premises which were conveyed to the said William S Hardcastle by Minos Conoway as Administartor of William Morgan, deceased, by deed dated 22 Sept. AD 1891 and recorded by the Recorders Office at Dover in Deed Book G, Vol. 7, pg. 455.
  

Memories of Charles have been passed down from his widow, Annie, to her granddaughter, Grace Wilson Davis :

• " Grandfather was a kind and gentle man and definitely head of the family and a good provider and farmer. He had 25 acres and had a variety of almost every tree and bush imaginable: red and white cherry, damson, peaches, apples, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and gooseberries. He raised wheat and corn and always had enough food to provide for the winter. He never had to buy anything."
  
• "At Christmas , the table was set the night before and the children put pennies on their own dinner plate. Father got up with them at 3 AM and they checked their plates and found nuts, oranges and part or all of a toy".
  
• " New Years no one could eat until a man entered the house to bring good luck. The first one to enter had to be a man, so father would hold a gun and Pearl always got to pull the trigger. That was the signal for Mr. Carney to come up and be the first to enter the house."
  
• " He died of typhoid fever and complications of pneumonia. His family was enveloped in typhoid as were others in that area at the time. Daughter Katie died 2 days after her father".
  

Charles died intestate and his estate was handled by the Orphans Court. There is no record of the guardians appointed for the minor children but there is a record of the disposition of the assets. Jesse Dean , Annie's brother, was appointed Administrator. The property was auctioned off on 26 December and Annie was able to buy back the farm for $340.00.
